Gilded Night Katana - Ghost of Yotei Atsu’s Sword
Description
The Gilded Night Katana is part of the Soul of Mount Yotei collection. Its 72 cm Shinogi-Zukuri blade is forged from 1065 high carbon steel and heat-treated in a muffle furnace with controlled tempering. The sword uses a full tang construction and measures 102 cm overall.
The handle sets this model apart from traditionally wrapped katana. Its solid wood Tsuka has no cord wrapping and is finished in glossy black piano lacquer. The matching wooden Saya uses the same finish. Gold splatter and vein-like lines are applied by hand across both pieces, creating a Kintsugi-inspired pattern against the black surface.
The sword is fitted with a polished, gold-toned zinc alloy Tsuba in a segmented bamboo or cloud-like design. A pure copper Habaki and brass Seppa complete the fittings. Without the Saya, the sword weighs 1040 grams, giving it a substantial feel while remaining responsive in the hand. Its black-and-gold finish also makes it well suited to display.
